76th Centomiglia del Garda: new pre-entries bring together sport and solidarity
The 76th Centomiglia del Garda will take place on 5 and 6 September 2026, starting and finishing in Gargnano on Lake Garda, under the organisation of Circolo Vela Gargnano. New pre-entries add to a fleet featuring distinctive boats, champions from different sports and a sailing project devoted to social inclusion. The Centomiglia programme is already available.
The 76th Centomiglia del Garda will be held on 5 and 6 September 2026, with both the start and finish in Gargnano on Lake Garda. The event is organised by Circolo Vela Gargnano. New pre-entries are adding to a fleet already marked by distinctive boats, champions from several sporting disciplines and a sailing project focused on social inclusion. The Centomiglia programme is already available.
Banda Larga is expected from Lake Maggiore. The Ultimate 30 was designed by Bruce Farr and built in 1992 by the Dal Ferro yard under its original name, Longobarda. Following a major refit overseen by Claudio Maletto, the boat returns to competition on Lake Garda in its usual configuration, with eight people on board, six of them on the trapeze. Banda Larga had already taken part in the Centomiglia in 2017. The crew announced for 2026 also includes Stefano Beltrando, a composites specialist and Quality Control Manager at Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, with experience in America’s Cup campaigns.
Sub Vento Libertas, an Este 35 belonging to the Doppiavela Solidale project, carries a strong social purpose. The initiative brings together police officers serving as skippers and young people from difficult personal circumstances, using life as part of a crew to foster responsibility, cooperation and trust. The Este 35 joined the project in 2016 thanks to ASD Polizia di Stato di Peschiera del Garda and the support of Fondazione Cariverona.
The Canadian Evert Bastet is expected aboard König Ludwig, an Asso 99 owned by Prince Luitpold von Bayern. Bastet won Olympic silver in the Flying Dutchman at the 1984 Los Angeles Games and became world champion in the class in 1980. His connection with the prince dates back to that Olympic campaign and to their subsequent shared sailing experience on Lake Garda, which eventually led to their participation in the 39th Centomiglia.
Max Rauffer will also be on board. He is a former downhill racer for the German Alpine skiing national team and won the 2004 World Cup downhill on the Saslong course in Val Gardena. The event is organised by Circolo Vela Gargnano under delegation from the Italian Sailing Federation, with contributions from the Municipality of Gargnano, Pro Loco Gargnano and This is Gargnano.
