Padenghe plans a new look for Via Chiesa and Piazza Caduti

The historic centre of Padenghe sul Garda will be transformed through an urban renewal project involving Via Chiesa and Piazza Caduti. The plan was presented on Wednesday 2 September in the council chamber, attended by Mayor Albino Zuliani, the municipal executive, town technicians, project designer Matteo Defendini and representatives of Acque Bresciane. Work on Via Chiesa is scheduled to begin in October 2026, while work in Piazza Caduti will start in autumn 2027.
The first phase includes the complete reconstruction of the water supply network in Via Chiesa, with around 170 metres of pipes replaced and private and public connections renewed. Connections to the sewer network will also be checked to encourage the separation of clean water, rainwater and wastewater. The sewer network is considered to be in good condition and does not require specific work, while any non-compliant elements in internal systems will have to be brought up to standard by the owners.
The road surface will be completely rebuilt using porphyry similar to the existing material. The project provides safer pedestrian routes, with illuminated markers and removable bollards, as well as the removal of some non-compliant parking spaces. The aim is to calm traffic and improve safety while retaining, wherever possible, parking spaces for cars, motorbikes and bicycles.
The redevelopment of Piazza Caduti is the more complex phase. It includes rebuilding the road surface, creating two new parking spaces and establishing a meeting place in front of the church, with a double removable circular seat arranged around a symbolic element. Street furniture will also be renewed using stone materials coordinated with the existing paving.
The timetable will be published by October, after the works have been awarded. During construction, measures will be adopted to limit disruption, including periodic temporary surfacing, wooden walkways to ensure access to homes and businesses, and advance notices of any interruptions to the water supply. One proposal that emerged during the evening was also to increase greenery in Piazza Caduti; the municipal administration is continuing to consider it.
