The body of 21-year-old Rayan Jeirom Baylen, a Bergamo resident, was located in Lake Como on the morning of 18 August at a depth of 357 metres, after four days of searches in the waters off Lenno, in the Tremezzina area. It was found by the Volontari del Garda in the area indicated by the Lake Operations Unit of the Milan Coast Guard, using an ROV, a remotely operated underwater vehicle.
The operation, coordinated by the Coast Guard, involved firefighters, divers, the State Police and the Guardia di Finanza. Searches continued without interruption, apart from pauses caused by weather conditions. The ROV, purchased by the Volontari del Garda through a fundraising campaign dedicated to the memory of Greta Nedrotti and Umberto Garzarella, made it possible to locate the body at a depth of more than 350 metres and proceed with its recovery.
