Workshop on the olive fruit fly in Gargnano

The olive fruit fly will be the focus of a technical workshop taking place on Saturday, 29 August, in Gargnano on Lake Garda, at the Sala Civica Castellani civic hall on Via del Teatro 14. The initiative is organised by the Comunità Montana Parco Alto Garda Bresciano mountain community as part of the Strategic Programme for Olive Growing. It aims to help olive growers identify and combat Bactrocera oleae, one of the main pests affecting olive cultivation, whose spread is favoured by rising temperatures and milder winters.

Participant registration is scheduled for 8 a.m., followed by a theoretical session on morphology, the biological cycle, damage, intervention thresholds, and conventional and organic protection strategies. From 9.30 to 11 a.m., the workshop will continue in the field, with exercises on monitoring, sampling, traps, punctures, identifying development stages, and calculating active infestation. The speakers will be AIPOL technicians, moderated by officials from the Mountain Community’s Agriculture Office.
